#Newsflash: 5 Taiwanese held for disrupting security at Shangri-La Hotel

The Singapore Police Force issues a reminder that organising a public assembly without a police permit in Singapore is illegal.

SINGAPORE: Five Taiwanese were detained for allegedly disrupting security operations at the Shangri-La Hotel where a historic meeting took place between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou on Saturday (Nov 7).

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) issued a statement saying it acted on a tip-off and that the five are assisting police investigations.

Security was high at the luxury hotel, with vehicle and personnel checkpoints set up around the perimeter and hundreds of media packed into the venue.

SPF issued a reminder to the public that organising or participating in a public assembly without a Police permit in Singapore is illegal and constitutes an offence under the Public Order Act.

"Foreigners in Singapore are reminded to comply with our laws and heed the directions of the police and other officials. Those who break the law will be firmly dealt with," SPF said.
