The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis) has filed a police report over false online claims that 63 eatery outlets — including popular names — have had their halal certification canceled.

SINGAPORE — The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis) has filed a police report over false online claims that 63 eateries — including popular names like 4Fingers Crispy Chicken and Eighteen Chefs— have had their halal certification cancelled.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday (April 24), Muis said the claim was "absolutely false".

"We take a serious view against such irresponsible acts which may mislead the public.

"This is not the first time that falsehoods such as this have been circulated on social media. Indeed, many times these falsehoods are recycled and recirculated many times over, sometimes even after a few years," it added.


The list, which made its rounds on social media over the past few days, comprised well-known eateries such as Siam Kitchen, a branch of Seoul Garden Hot Pot, and Swee Heng 1989 Classic.

Muis, which was alerted to the matter on Monday evening, urged the public not to spread unverified information "that may create confusion in the community".

Those who are unsure of an eatery's halal certification status should check against the Muis website, which contains a list of halal eating establishments, as well as caterers and central kitchens, it added.

TODAY has reached out to some of the affected eateries for comments.
