#Newsflash: Former Certis Cisco employee jailed a week for molesting colleague at Changi Airport
SINGAPORE — A 33-year-old former Certis Cisco employee tasked to collect trollies and coordinate the flow of taxis at Changi Airport Terminal 2 was given a one-week jail sentence for molesting a 27-year-old colleague on New Year’s Day.
The court heard on Friday (Jan 18) that earlier this month on the afternoon of Jan 1, Lawrance Sorimutha, a Malaysian, pulled the hand of his female colleague to touch his crotch while they were working at Terminal 2’s taxi counter.
The colleague, a Singaporean, cannot be named due to a gag order.
About an hour later, when the colleague was walking towards a McDonald’s outlet to take a break from her duties, he touched her buttocks while uttering, “If you are bad, I am your dad” — a line that he said was from a Tamil movie.
This time, the victim walked quickly away from him and did not hesitate to report the matter to her supervisor, a 52-year-old Certis Cisco deputy commanding officer.
Lawrance was summoned to the supervisor’s office, where he admitted that he had touched the woman inappropriately. He was then taken to the police post at the airport.
Having been in remand since Jan 4, Lawrance was released after he was sentenced on Friday.
For outraging the modesty of a woman, he could have been jailed up to two years, fined and/or caned.
