#Newsflash: Apologise to the people, not me, Rosmah says on pink diamond
KUALA LUMPUR: Rosmah Mansor says it is more important to apologise to the people than to her, following a deputy minister’s statement in the Dewan Rakyat that there had been no purchase of a 22-carat pink diamond popularly linked to her.
“If people come and apologise, I will forgive them. But the important thing is to apologise to the people,” she said outside the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur, where she was earlier slapped with a third charge related to the RM1.25 billion project to generate electricity for schools in rural Sarawak.
“They believe the slander spread about me, but I accept it. I understand that my husband is a leader of the country. What he goes through, I go through as well because I am his wife,” she added.
On Monday, Deputy Finance Minister Amiruddin Hamzah said the sales agent who brought in the pink diamond, along with other items of jewellery, for the “wife of a VVIP”, had declared the items when taking them out of Malaysia.
“So, no purchase took place because the agent took the jewellery out (of the country),” he said.
Rosmah said those who linked her to the diamond had wanted to “use it for the election”.
“Unfortunately, the people believed this slander. Alhamdulillah, the truth has been revealed,” she added.
She voiced regret over those who choose to listen to “lies and untrue stories” about her and Najib.
“We just have to go through it, and unfortunately the people suffered, because of all this, because you chose to believe in lies because lies are more interesting, more savoury.
“I thought people were careful enough to listen to the truth, but they chose to listen to all the lies, for whatever reason. And I have to go through it.”
She added however that she would be patient for the good of the people and the country.
“I will also be patient in facing whatever challenges God gives me.”
